Got a question about our plates or our Official 501st Merchandise.? Hopefully it will be answered here, but if not simply drop me a line using our contact form. I will update this page with new FAQ’s if the same thing gets asked a lot, so please do check back here before asking a question.

 

501st ID BADGES

Q: Do you supply lanyards with the card holder option.?
A: No we don’t. Most 501st members already have a lanyard with their Garrison, Outpost, Squad, or the 501st name on it so we don’t want to confuse things (or raise the price) by adding something to the cards that most people already have.

Q: As well as the 501st Legion, I see you do the UKG, Danish Garrison, Blizzard Force logo, FISD ID badges and many other garrisons and detachments – can I get my Garrison or Squad logo on an ID badge too.?
A: Possibly. We would need to see the logo first, and we would need your CO or Merch Officer approval to do this, and it must be for your detachment, garrison, squad members etc.. not just a one off for yourself. Please drop us an enquiry via our contact form.

Q: Can I add some other details or images to my ID badge order.?
A: Sorry no. We have to submit designs for approval to use the official logos and for official merch, and once approved no deviation from the approved design is permitted. If you are looking for something completely custom without any official 501st logos please send us a custom request via our contact form.

Q: Can I do a bulk order for my Garrison, Squad, Detachment, Outpost etc.. for ID badges or kit box discs.?
A: We would prefer that all orders are placed individually simply because the responsibility for the order detail is then with the individual trooper to get the information to us correctly, and we can manage the order directly ourselves, and not burden your local Merch Officer! It also means that the items are shipped direct to that troopers address, with no additional local distribution required by someone else. However, if you are a Merch Officer or Staff member with the authority or approval for your Garrison, Squad, Detachment, Outpost etc… and are prepared to manage a bulk order yourself for your group (min 20+ ID badges and/or 30+ kit box discs) please contact us direct to discuss/arrange this.


KIT BOXES

Q: Do you supply the actual kit boxes / storage boxes / tool chests.?
A: No we don’t. We only design, make and supply the actual custom plates for you to fit to your own kit box. The storage boxes and and tool chests are available from most DIY stores, online stores, tool suppliers, and some home supply stores.

Q: Your unit measurements seem strange.. how are you measuring gallons and litres for the kit boxes.?
A: As we are UK based we use ‘Imperial Gallons’ (no pun intended) and not the US version for our capacity measurement. For example the Stanley 50 gallon / 225 ltr box is correct. We also take our specification details from the kit box manufacturers websites, and for simplicity they do round up/down for a rounder (cleaner) number.


KIT BOX PLATES

Q: Can I order a standard plate such as the Stanley 50 Gallon plate set without 501st or Garrison logos.?
A: Yes you can. The option to have one of the official logos we’ve been approved to use is your choice. You do not have to have them incorporated into you plate design on any of the approved plate sets. Many troopers just have generic images such as imperial cogs and costume icons. Q: Can I order a custom sized plate or plate set and have 501st or Garrison logos on it.?
A: Sorry no. We have to submit designs for approval to use the official logos, and for one off plates it is not really viable.  The 501st and various Garrison or Squad logos are all copyright and we are not allowed to use them without permission or approval.

Q: Can I order a custom sized plate or plate set and just have generic icons on it – with no official logos.?
A: Yes you can. Your best bet is to contact us via our contact form and give us the details and we’ll get back to you. As you are not requiring official 501st or Garrison logos we can make any plate or plate set you want.

Q: I want a plate / plate set with a costume icon you don’t have listed. Is this possible.?
A: As such yes. We have listed our current library of generic helmet/head/cap icons we’ve drawn for the most popular costumes and for plates we have already made. We are constantly adding to the library of icons that we draw up as and when required (and when time allows!). If you need an icon drawing up for a plate and it is a standard Star Wars character, we will do this and add it to the library of icons.  You can view the current icons available HERE. Q: What are the standard ‘off the shelf’ 2 colour options for plates please?
A: Currently they are:

White / Black
Ideal for Stormtroopers, Biker Scouts, Snowies, FO Troopers, Clonetroopers etc…
Black / White
Ideal for TIE pilots, Shadow Troopers, Officers, Kylo etc…
Black / Red
Ideal for Vaders, Siths, Predators, Knights of Ren etc…
Brushed Metal-look / Black
Generic plate
Orange / White
Orange / Black
Ideal for Rebel Legion costumes.

These are just suggestions, and not a restriction within the 501st design approval process. If you want a black / white plate for your Vader box or a brushed metal-look / black for your Trooper kit, no problem.

Q: How does the plate colour choice work?
A: Laminate is a layered material comprising of 2 sheets of different coloured materials (a top colour and a base colour). The top colour is engraved though, to reveal the base colour. Colours are shown as the TOP colour first + the BASE colour. So..

  • Brushed metal-look/Black has a metal-look material as the top colour and black as the base. The finished plate would be brushed metal-look with black engraved detail.
  • White/Black has white as the top colour and black as the base. The finished plate would be white with black engraved detail.
  • Black/White has black as the top colour and white as the base. The finished plate would be black with white engraved detail.

Q: I would like to order a plate set but in a different colour finish. Is this possible?
A: Potentially yes. The premium laminate product we use is available in a fairly wide range of colour options, but it is limited to a point. It is not a printed product so you do not have 1,000’s (or even 1,00’s) of colour choices, but there are a number of non-standard 2 colour options available to order. Please note that as we have to buy in whole sheets there maybe additional cost to you to cover this. You can request a custom colour material HERE.

Q: Can I change the font used on the plate designs.?
A: Sorry no. As part of our approval process the design is fixed as is. It would also slow down the process of turning our plates around so quick from design-to-dispatch (which we have become know for!) and requesting different fonts would as such be classed as a custom job. Q: My tool chest or storage box is not listed. Can I get plates made for it?
A: Yes you can. These would be custom plates but please note you would not be allowed to have the official 501st or Garrison logos engraved on these plates.

Q: My tool chest or storage box is not listed. Can I get plates made for it and use the 501st or Garrison logos?
A: We can only submit deigns for approval for the most popular tool chest and storage boxes used by troopers. If the tool chest or storage box you have is being widely used we can look at adding it to our portfolio of ‘Standard Kit Boxes’ and have a set of plates/a plate submitted for approval for official logo usage.


AFTER CARE

Q: What is the best way to fix my new plate(s) to my kit box.?
A: FOR GUIDANCE ONLY. I have used E6000 glue for mine and this appears to work fine for me, as it is slightly flexible, allows for re-positioning whilst placing, and will bond most surfaces extremely well. Remove any stickers, nameplates, badges etc… so that you are bonding directly to the box material. We suggest lightly sanding or scoring the back of the plate(s) and the surface of the box where the plate(s) will be fixed, to provide a key and remove and surface preparations, coatings, oils, shine etc… Use small ‘blobs’ or a thin bead of E6000 rather than a whole covering as you many find excessive coverage might result in a chemical reaction and the plate or box material warping. Tape into place if vertical, or weigh down if horizontal, until the E6000 has completely set. You can download our plate fixing datasheet HERE.

Some people use heavy duty double sided tape, and some have even used Velcro. You could also drill and use pop rivets or self tapping screws, small nut & bolts etc..for a more industrial look. In any case, the chosen method of fixing your plates to your kit box is down to you and your preference.

Q: How should I clean my plate(s).?
A: We use, and recommend IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol… not the beer!). This is a widely used cleaning and surface preparation solution used in medical, engineering, manufacturing, IT, healthcare, and sign making professions. It will clean surfaces of grease and marks and evaporates to leave the surface clean and dry. It is available in 70% and 99% (almost pure) versions as swabs, wipes, sprays and solutions from auto supply shops, chemists, and on line. We use the 99% version.  You can download our cleaning and care datasheet HERE.

Alternatively a kitchen surface or floor ‘wet wipe’ (the kind already soaked with a cleaning solution and sold in resealable packets in supermarkets) would do, but ensure there is no bleach, alcohol or colouring agents, and wipe dry with a soft lint-free cloth after cleaning.


ORDERING, DELIVERY & SHIPPING

Q: Why can’t I see any products or access the Online Ordering pages?
A: Only members of The 501st Legion and any of the associated Garrisons, Squads, Outposts, Detachments; members of Rebel Legion, and the Galactic Academy are permitted to access this section of the website and order customised plates and/or purchase official merch.

Q: Can I order my ID badge, plates, discs, or UKG business cards together and have them shipped at the same time.?
PLEASE NOTE – THIS HAS NOW BEEN UPDATED
A: All ID badges are on set monthly production runs (please click here to see current run info), whereas kit box plates are made to order and then dispatched as soon as possible, normally within a few days of ordering.  You can by all means order ID badges along with other items, however you should note that your complete order will then be fulfilled as part of the ID badge run, in one delivery, and not shipped as individual items.

If you require your plates and/or discs or UKG cards quicker i.e. before the ID badge run is dispatched, please place a separate order for these items after your ID badge order. These will then be processed as a completely separate order here, made and shipped out within a few days.

To clarify:

  • If you are ordering ID badges and other items and are happy to wait for the ID badge production run for everything, then order everything as normal in one order. Your items will be delivered in 1 delivery at the end of the month for that production run.
  • If you are ordering ID badges and other items but need / want your kit box plates, discs, UKG business cards sooner i.e. BEFORE the ID badge production run is completed at the end of the month, you must order your ID badge(s) first, complete that order and check out, then place a separate order for your kit box plates, discs, UKG business cards etc.. We will then process these two orders separately and dispatch the non ID badge items ASAP.

 

Q: Is your ordering system safe.?
A: For your peace of mind we have an SSL certificate on our website to encrypt all the information you enter on your keyboard/keypad into your order or enquiry form, and furthermore, we don’t see or store your payment card or PayPal account details on our system. All payment processing is controlled, secured, and processed by PayPal’s secure system on their network, not ours. No payment processing is handled or seen on our website or our server.

Q: I only want to order 1 item from you, and not order anything else in the future. Can I have my personal details removed from your ordering system afterwards.?
A: No problem. Simply drop me a line using the contact form clearly stating you wish to be removed from the system (quoting your last order reference and PayPal reference for ID purposes) and I will remove you from the database as soon as your order has been processed.

Q: How do you ship / post items.?
A: To provide a balance between speed of delivery and cost, the P&P/shipping services currently offered by us are 1st Class Royal Mail but with basic ‘up to £20’ cover only. Overseas customers ordering larger plate sets should note that the service used for these is a 6-10 working day delivery, untracked, with ‘up to £100’ cover in transit.

PLEASE NOTE: UK customers and any overseas customers that require additional ‘cover in transit’ insurance or a tracked delivery service for a particular order should contact us before ordering. This is not offered as standard yet.

Q: My order has arrived damaged – what should I do.?
A: This is covered in detail (and in a more legal and accurate speak) in our Terms & Conditions – please ensure you read these before ordering, but in brief, you must report any damage within 48 hours of delivery.

1. PACKAGING  DAMAGE RESULTING IN PRODUCT DAMAGE:
We go to great lengths to ensure that the packing we use and how we pack our items will best protect your plates and merch in transit, however we cannot be held responsible for the delivery services handling of your parcel once it has left us. Please note as stated above, to keep costs down the P&P services currently offered are 1st Class Royal Mail but with basic ‘up to £20’ cover only. Overseas customers ordering larger plates should note that the service used is a 6-10 working day delivery, untracked, with ‘up to £100’ cover in transit. UK customers and any overseas customer that require additional ‘cover in transit’ or a tracked delivery service for a particular order should contact us before ordering.

2. PACKAGING  FINE BUT PRODUCT DAMAGED:
This would be highly irregular. Our in-house QC process ensures that every product leaves here in perfect condition. All items are visually checked and inspected by us before packing. That said, if in the unusual situation that your item is damaged, again this must be reported within 24 hours and will will contact you to address/rectify this.

Q: My custom plate / ID badge order has arrived but I’ve changed my mind – can I return it for a refund.?
A: Sorry, no. Under the Distance Selling Regulations Act anything that has been made to order, customised, branded, coloured, engraved, baked etc.. specifically for a customer cannot be returned for a refund as the item in question is completely unique to that customer i.e. it is not an ‘off the shelf stock item’ that can simply be returned to stock.

Q: My custom plate order has arrived but I’ve ordered the wrong plate set – can I return it for a refund/swap.?
A: Sorry, no. Once a plate set has been cut and made for you, it is unique to you regardless of the size (see answer above). We have gone to great lengths to ensure that there is plenty of visual information, text descriptions and details on each product page to ensure that you can order the correct plate for your kit box. Please read everything and check the spec of the plate(s) you are interesting in before ordering, and if you have any questions please open the chat window if we are online, or drop us a message BEFORE ordering.
